REINVENTING TANK ANCHORS

Until now, aboveground liquid storage tanks over the world have been built based on design codes, standards, and practices developed to protect only people, not property or product. ONGUARD reverses this approach, with a system focused on preventing earthquake damage and property loss that inherently keeps people safe as well.

HOW IT WORKS

The Onguard
Difference

ONGUARD is the first energy-dissipating system designed to protect aboveground liquid storage tanks from earthquake damage. We provide a more sustainable future for your business and help you sleep at night.

SECURE YOUR BUSINESS

Superior Seismic
Protection

Designed to handle both the tension and compression cycles of an earthquake, the ONGUARD system keeps the liquid storage tank, its contents, connections, and supporting structure protected against damage.

HOW IT WORKS

Developed by
Structural engineers

ONGUARD engineers use locally-mandated building codes, globally-recognized standards and best practice, and research unique to ONGUARD to deliver dependable earthquake performance for the entire tank system.

How it works

THE ONGUARD SYSTEM USES ENERGY DISSIPATION TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO TANKS DURING AN EARTHQUAKE.

During an earthquake and its aftershocks our patented anchors act like shock absorbers, keeping the tank stable and safe through controlled yielding in both tension and compression.

Our Story

ONGUARD was born out of the rubble of a catastrophic earthquake in New Zealand.

Rick Hughes

Capital Project Manager, Ray’s Station, CA

“After 3.24 million gallons of wine storage [were] seismically controlled with Onguard’s seismic anchors, I would recommend Will and his brilliant team to any business in need of a tank anchor.”

Peter Yealands

Owner, Yealands Estate Winery, New Zealand

“We had an earthquake in November ‘16, and we had the ONGUARD system installed, and they proved how bloody good they were.”

Gavin Williams

Winery Manager, Villa Maria, New Zealand

“We visited a number of other wineries and actually viewed how the ONGUARD system had performed during that earthquake... we actually saw tanks that were fitted with Onguard anchors that were completely undamaged right next to tanks that had traditional hold down systems that were damaged. Now it’s becoming an expectation in the industry and by insurance companies that we have solid systems in place, and I think ONGUARD fills that very well. We've loved working with the ONGUARD guys... Will is clearly passionate about his product, and you can see that in the rest of the team as well. We couldn’t think of a better team to work with.”

Tony Robb

Operations Director, Pernod Ricard New Zealand

“We wanted confidence in any future earthquake that our tanks would stay upright and our stuff would be protected. Currently we are using the ONGUARD system for new tanks that we are having built for us, but we will be investigating retrofitting them to existing tanks onsite.”

Jane Hunter

Owner, Hunter’s Wines, New Zealand

“We have just gone from one set of small legs that were anchored into concrete to the ONGUARD system, so it was a fairly easy changeover for us.”

Gareth Lyne

Project Director, Indevin, New Zealand

“We’re putting in fourteen 248,000 liter tanks. We are using ONGUARD’s [systems] on these tanks exclusively. . . . It doesn’t matter who builds the tank as long as we have ONGUARD. . . . Our insurance companies are very happy that we are using ONGUARD because ONGUARD minimizes risk.”
